Because emotional difficulties can occur unpredictably and because mental illness
can involve episodes of acute regression, DCMHS offers emergency/crisis services on a
24 hour basis. Trained therapists are always available either by phone or through
face-to-face consultations in local hospital emergency rooms. When emergencies call for hospitalization, arrangements can generally be
made for placement in appropriate psychiatric facilities or local hospitals. Our experienced Physician medical consultants
and psychiatrists provide
daily assessment of consumers who require local hospitalization and our hospital counselors are available for daily evaluation of
these consumers' mental health needs and concerns. Consumers who receive local hospital
care are, upon discharge, provided with appropriate follow-up services through the mental
health center in their respective County. Case Management services, including linkage to
helpful community resources are also provided to consumers who have required hospitalization.
