Our Mission

"Delta Community Mental Health Services aims to provide affordable and

effective mental health care to residents of all ages from Washington, Bolivar,

Sharkey, and Issaquena Counties. Established in 1970 by a handful of

local citizens, DCMHS has grown to a Region wide staff of over 150, now

serving more than 3,000 consumers annually. Minor adjustment difficulties,

problems in living, serious mental illness which can require hospitalization, chemical abuse/dependency, and developmental disabilities, are some of the concerns for which people seek out our services. DCMHS is the only service provider in the immediate area which offers fully State certified-licensed services on a sliding fee scale basis. No person is ever denied services because of an inability to pay. The staff is fully qualified, including Psychiatrists, licensed Psychologists, licensed Social Workers, licensed Professional Counselors, certified Alcohol/Drug Counselors, and mental retardation Educational Specialists. DCMHS also provides short-term inpatient care for persons suffering from acute emotional disturbance. While there are other qualified mental health programs in the area, DCMHS is the only comprehensive, State-certified, full service provider at this time."
